Apple Beats Studio Buds had been Apple's worst-kept secret for a while before they were released, by the way. Many sports stars have had their photos taken with these earbuds and the technical documents were leaked to the web months before the company launched them on the market. We all knew about the Beats Studio Buds before they came out, but we were still surprised with their quality when we tried them.

The Beats Studio Buds are True Wireless headphones with active noise cancellation. They deliver a great sound, with bass and treble that stand out in the mix. They are very comfortable, and you can wear them for long periods of time.

Since Apple bought Beats in 2014, every pair of Beats headphones have been tied to the company's ecosystem. However, this changes with the Beats Studio Buds. This new model eliminates the H1 or W1 chips in favor of a more universal one to equalize the experience between Android and iOS users. In this article, we tell you about all its features.

Design

Unlike the majority of True Wireless In Ear headphones , Beats Studio Buds come in a compact case that is almost as compact and attractive as the headphones. The case has an oval shape, features a USB-C port for charging and an LED indicator light on the front.

When you open the case, you find the Beats Studio Buds headphones. To remove them, you just need to grab them by the control panel. This is very easy as the control panel of the cups is elevated, which also helps keep the cups firmly in your ears, without the need for hooks or flaps. The best part of the design: they are incredibly comfortable.

As for water resistance, they are IPX4 certified. They are sweat and splash resistant. You can't submerge them and they don't have dust resistance, so you shouldn't take them to the beach. However, they are perfect for wearing to the gym.

Inside the Beats Studio Buds package, you find the USB-C charging cable and additional silicone tips in two different sizes. We would have liked them to come with more tips, but they almost create a good in-ear seal on almost any user.

Beats designed the Studio Buds to work with Apple and Android phones. To connect them, simply remove them from the case near any device and you will see them appear on the screen, ready for synchronization.

This is because the Beats Studio Buds do not integrate a chip designed for Apple devices, like the W1 or H1 that other Beats headphones feature. This is positive for Andoid users, but negative for Apple users looking to enjoy features such as multiple sync or Siri.

Connectivity

The benefit of the chip in the Beats Studio Buds headphones is that it works with Bluetooth 5.2 technology. They support AAC and SBC codecs, but not aptX or LDAC. AAC is optimized for Apple devices, so we recommend turning it off in the settings if you are using an Android phone.

In addition, it supports functions such as Find My Device on iOS or Android. This is very useful as the buds are very small. Also, if you buy them in black you can easily lose sight of them if they fall under the bed, for example.

As we've mentioned, these earphones are designed for both operating systems, and the company even launched campaigns using Android phones. On the other hand, a January 2022 firmware update added iCloud support, which means they automatically sync with your Apple devices after connecting them to just one of them .

They don't integrate sensors or support spatial audio, like the new Beats Fit Pro, but you can still use Siri, of course. With the Beats app you can also switch between listening modes, customize the cup controls and rename the Beats Studio Buds. The application is very easy to use. However, it doesn't offer many extra functions.

Beats Studio Buds vs AirPods Pro? If you are looking for a headset to use exclusively with Apple devices we recommend the AirPods 3 or Pro. On the other hand, Buds offer great performance for a lower price.

Performance

Once you get the right fit, Beats Studio Buds deliver great performance. We tested them with Apple Music and were amazed. This application now supports Spatial Audio, Dolby Atmos and lossless audio. You can't enjoy the full effect of lossless audio due to Bluetooth compression, but the performance is very good.

Unlike the brand's older headphones that featured over-emphasized bass, the Beats Studio Buds have a good tonal balance. The sound profile raises the bass and treble in the mix. This results in a very pleasant sound that never fatigues.

As for active noise cancellation, it works decently. However, it doesn't come close to that of the best noise-cancelling headphones, such as the Bose or Sony. This is not unusual, as these companies have years of experience, but we welcome the technology. This model performs very well in the office, as it reduces ambient noise to a minimum. However, it struggles with engine noises.

Call quality is not outstanding either. They work well when you use them at home, but ambient noise, winds and traffic can be heard and make conversation difficult.

Battery life

The battery life of the Beats Studio Buds is not outstanding. They yield up to five hours of continuous playback when you use the ANC or transparency modes. The capacity is decent, but falls short when compared to the best models. For example, the Sony WF-1000XM4's autonomy reaches eight hours. On the other hand, the case/charging base provides an additional 15 hours.

Unfortunately, they do not support wireless charging. This is not a very significant drawback, but it can be annoying if you already have a charging pad for your other devices. On the plus side, they charge very quickly via the USB-C port. Only five minutes of charging is enough to use them for more than an hour.

Why do we like Beats Studio Buds?

The sound quality is very pleasant. They are not the most neutral headphones as the profile emphasizes bass and treble. However, you can listen to them all day long without music fatigue thanks to their warmth and energy. In addition, they are really comfortable and attractive. They also have decent ANC technology and are affordable.

Why don't we like them?

If you are looking for premium noise cancellation, this model is not for you. Rather, we recommend opting for the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds. Likewise, they are not the best sports headphones. They can withstand sweat, but do not have fins to keep them secure. They also don't integrate an Apple chip, so you can opt for the AirPods or the Beat Fit Pro if you're an Apple-only user.

BSB use

Conclusion

Overall, we find the Beats Studio Buds to be excellent value for money. They are comfortable, attractive, sound good and are ideal for both iOS and Android users. Noise cancellation is not the best and battery life leaves something to be desired. However, in their price range they stand out for all their positive features. Find the best price on this link.

We also recommend you check out the new Beats Fit Pro.

Beats Studio Buds reviews

This model has a good average score on Amazon. 60% of buyers rate them with the highest score. That said, here are a few highlights from the site so that you can be guided by its users.

  • Chicco: “Great sound. They are comfortable, attractive and the noise cancellation is sufficient for my taste. The AirPods Pro are more complete, but also more expensive.”
  • John L: “They are comfortable and stay secure. However, the AirPods Pro sound better.”
  • Oscar Grau: “I liked the sound quality and the price/quality ratio. The worst thing is that they can get loose when exercising.”
