Design

Bowers & Wilkins headphones are known for their stylish designs and build quality, as are their speakers. The Px7 continues this tradition. Since the PX, this line has remained consistent for its elegant aesthetics. They look very similar to the Px7s because of their oval cups, but are thinner.

This may be due to the new 40mm drivers, which are slightly smaller than those of the previous generation. They maintain the same sober aesthetics and the materials are first class. The headband is covered with a moisture-wicking fabric and the cups rotate 180% for easy portability.

They weigh 307 grams and come in a compact case. They create a great seal around the ear and do not generate any uncomfortable pressure. The leather padded cups and headband are very soft to the touch. They are heavy and can cause some fatigue after a few hours, but they are still very comfortable.

As in previous versions, the Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2 features a button on the left cup called quick action. With this control, you can switch between the three noise cancellation modes, activate the ambient mode and you can also customize it with the application to activate your phone's personal assistant.

On the right cup is a switch for power and Bluetooth connection, controls for playback and a USB-C port for charging or wired use. Bowers & Wilkins eliminated the 3.5mm jack in favor of the new USB (they come with the 3.5mm adapter).

Battery life

The Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2's battery life is up to 30 hours with noise cancellation enabled, and only 15 minutes of charging is enough to use them for about seven hours. The capacity is equal to that of the Px7 and Sony WH-1000XM5, one of the best on the market.

Connectivity

You can use them wired, but they still use the battery. As for wireless connectivity, they work with Bluetooth 5.2 and support SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX HD and aptX Adaptive codecs.

The aptX Adaptive codec is ideal for watching movies or playing games as it allows bit-rate variations to avoid any connection problems.

The new Bowers and Wilkins Px7 S2 Bluetooth headphones use the B&W Music application, also used by the company's wireless speakers. For now you cannot stream music directly from the app, but this feature is expected to be added later this year.

With the application you can change the noise cancellation modes, customize the bass or treble and customize the quick action control. The Px7 S2 can also be wirelessly synchronized with two devices simultaneously.

Sound quality

We love the option to equalize the audio with the application, but the truth is that there is no need to alter the sound balance. We tested the Bowers and Wilkins Px7 S2 headphones playing various genres of music and were amazed by the textures of all the instruments. The bass and percussions sound powerful and are perfectly integrated with exceptional mid-tones.

Likewise, the treble is smoother and more refined than in the previous version. The songs are perceived as vibrant and rich. The vowels stand out, as does the intensity of the rhythms. They offer a more neutral and faithful audio than the older versions. It reproduces any mix flawlessly and each instrument is presented in its own space.

As for the active noise cancellation, the company upgraded the ANC technology for these headphones and they now use six microphones. Two of them measure the output of each driver, two react to external ambient noise and the last ones are designed to improve the clarity of vocals and eliminate noise.

Overall, the ANC performance is very strong. It eliminates low noises, such as engines, very well, although louder noises can still be heard. In this department it doesn't match the WH-1000XM5 noise cancelling headphones .

What do we like about the Bowers and Wilkins Px7 S2?

They deliver impeccably balanced audio with subtle detail at all frequencies. Noise cancellation is solid and the build quality is excellent. The battery is one of the best on the market and they are very comfortable.

What don't we like about them?

The most significant drawback is its price. They are expensive, although this is to be expected due to their all-around quality. The ANC also doesn't match that of high-end Bose or Sony noise-cancelling headphones.
